Dress as if you are dining at a fine restaurant. Black is timeless and always in style and dark colors tend to make you appear slimmer. Long sleeves are more flattering but short sleeves are acceptable if that is your preference.
A few dark color recommendations:
Black, royal blue, burgundy and hunter green are all optimal color pallets. Ladies can wear a scarf for a splash of color. Don't forget to dress head to toe, including shoes and socks.
Decide what you are wearing and lay everything out the night before your session. Plan on arriving at the Studio at least 15 minutes early and dress here when you arrive (we have a large dressing room.) This is especially important if you are bringing young children.
Men always look great in tuxedos or dark suits. If you plan on wearing a tie, be sure to bring a jacket as it photographs much better. However, if you choose not to wear a tie, a dark jacket with an open neck shirt or turtleneck is a great choice.
Women can wear formal gowns or dresses-we recommend dresses that fall below the knee or long pants, which are more flattering than shorts. Avoid busy patterns, stripes, mixing dark and light colors and clothing with words, logos or pictures.
When you select an outfit for a family portrait be sure to think of how it will coordinate with other family members. Dress for the portraits, not your favorite color. If your favorite color is green, it will not photograph well next to your daughter’s favorite pink dress or your son’s blue and white sweater. It is better to choose a color scheme and keep it consistent through each family member’s outfit.
The camera sees what you see. Dress head to toe. If you plan on bare feet make sure all toenails are trimmed and clean. Don't forget about your finger nails! Chipped polish will show.
Don't make a change the day before your session, plan your salon appointment for a week prior. Select a style that allows both eyes to be seen.
Men should be freshly shaven. An hour prior to your session is optimal.
Props can add storytelling to any portrait as long as they are part of your lifestyle.
PETS are welcome in our studio. Prior notice is REQUIRED before including the family pet in your portrait.
As with classic, simple is best. Nothing too busy, such as stripes or polka dots. Khakis are always a nice choice for outdoor Spring/Summer portraits. Fashion styles come and go. We want your portrait to look timeless. In a portrait the most important elements are your face and eyes, not your clothing.
